Psychological Safety and Team Effectiveness Practitioner Certification
This certification is designed for professionals who work with teams — whether as a leader, a people developer, or a consultant — and who want a rigorous, evidence-based tool to measure and improve team culture.
Also known as the Fearless Organization Scan Certification, it allows you to measure, interpret and build psychological safety using an assessment developed in collaboration with Professor Amy Edmondson of Harvard Business School, the world’s leading researcher on psychological safety.
What is Psychological Safety?
Psychological safety is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns or mistakes.
– Amy Edmondson
This certification is built around the Fearless Organization Scan — a psychological safety assessment tool developed with Professor Amy Edmondson of Harvard Business School, the world’s leading researcher on psychological safety. Extensive research in the field of organizational psychology and teaming by Professor Edmondson has revealed a strong correlation between psychological safety and team effectiveness. Psychological safety was also cited by Google’s Project Aristotle as the single most important factor in team effectiveness.
What is the Fearless Organization Scan?
Developed in collaboration with Professor Edmondson, the Fearless Organization Scan measures the Psychological Safety Index (PSI) and reveals how teams stack up against the global benchmark data.
In this certification, you will learn how to use the Fearless Organization Scan and interpret the results across the four key domains of psychological safety to enhance team effectiveness.
Willingness to Help
How willing team members are to support one another.
Inclusion & Diversity
Whether everyone feels valued and included in the team.
Attitude to Risk & Failure
How openly the team shares mistakes and learns from them.
Open Conversation
Whether team members feel safe to speak up and raise concerns.
Program Objectives
- Understand the concepts of psychological safety and how it impacts team performance
- Learn to measure psychological safety using the Fearless Organization Scan and interpret the results
- Apply the Fearless Organization Scan in real-world scenarios or case studies
- Implement strategies for increasing psychological safety in teams
Program Structure
The program starts off with a 2-day face-to-face workshop that combines interactive activities, shared learning and reflection, as well as guided discussions to achieve the learning outcomes.
After the workshop, there will be an interval of 4-6 weeks where participants are required to carry out a practical application independently. They will engage a team of their choice to use the Fearless Organization Scan and conduct a debrief of the scan results for the team. 1-hour group coaching session will be delivered virtually to support participants during this period.
The program will end with a 1.5-hour closing session delivered virtually to debrief on the practical application. The entire process, from workshop to closing session, will take about 2 months.
To complete the certification, participants must do three things:
- Attend all sessions,
- Complete the homework, and
- Find a team to conduct their first pilot Fearless Organization Scan debrief. Workplace Asia does NOT provide a team for the debrief.
The program structure is summarized as follows:
- 2-day face-to-face workshop (16 hours)
- Practical application (over 4 – 6 weeks)
- Virtual group coaching session (1 hour)
- Virtual closing session (1.5 hours)
